Abstract
Professor Shigeru Ban established his own practice in Tokyo in 1985. He plays an active role in various fields with design work ranging from industrial, graphic, exhibition booth to architectural design. Whilst Ban's paper tube architecture has received wide attention as well as appraisal since early 90's, his social dedication as an architect is also remarkable, as in the shelter house which he designed for the victim of earthquake disaster. His recent works include the Paper Dome in Gifu (1998) and the well-known Japanese Pavillion in Hannover Expo 2000, Germany.
