Interpretation and Adequacy - Building Regulations for High-rise Housing Blocks in Hong Kong:Lighting and Ventilation

Abstract
Building regulations are vital to guiding and assessing building performance. Clear regulations foster innovative solutions. The Lighting and Ventilation section of the Hong Kong Building Regulations, now under review, is arguably unclear and inadequate. To test these assertions, we surveyed senior local architects, surveyours, and developers involved with constructing high-rise housing blocks in Hong Kong. Their responses, amidst government calls for sustainability and improved quality of life, provide the basis for further specification of and revision to the existing buiding regulation.
