Abstract
"Urban Watch" is a society set up for observing and caring for the Hong Kong urban environment.
The utilitarian character of the city does not diminish its legitimacy as an expression of culture and social values. Appropriate urban images and quality architecture are the common wealth of the community, no one has exclusive rights to the built environment in Hong Kong."Urban Watch" critically evaluates the present and future framework for building the city in terms of architecture, urban and environmental design. It aims to expose self-serving agendas in the design of the environment due to private greed. The main goals of "Urban Watch" are: to challenge established fallacies in the existing city building process, to promote alternative practice that serves the public interest, and to respect the natural environment.
