Abstract
Graphisoft continues to promote its Virtual Building TM concept in architectural design and practice through the sixth graphisoft prize international design competition, through two categories of award: professional and student. The award presentation was held in October 1999 in Paris. Entrants were requested to use ArchiCAD as a design tool and vital reality (included with ArchiCAD) as a visualisation tool to create virtual architectural drawings on cultural themes, which included:
Theme1: The Blue Sky Mine form the song Blue Sky Mine by Midnight Oil
Theme2: The Castle form Franz Kafka's novel, The Castle
Theme3: The Cheap Hotel from William Gibson's sci-fi novel, Neuromancer, 1984
Theme4: The Diner from Edward Hopper's painting, Nighthawks
Theme5: House of Frame And Hall of Rumour from Chaucer's narrative poem, The House of Fame
Theme6: Land of Extreme Felicity in the West from Chinese mythology and the novel, Hsi Yu Chi(Travels in the West)
Theme7: Maggie's Farm from the song of the same name by Bob Dylan
Theme8: The Palace of Haroun al-Rachid from Tales of 1001 Nights
Theme9: The Pharaoh's Palace from Thomas Mann's Joseph and His Brothers
Theme10: The Planet of the Businessman from Antoine de Saint Exupery's Little Price
Theme11: Rick's American Cafe from the motion picture Casablanca by Michael Curtiz
Theme12: The Zone from Tarkovsky's 1979 film, Stalker, Andrei Tarkovsky(1932-1986)
