Abstract
A climbing form is defined in the Dictionary of Architecture and Consturction as "a concrete form … raised vertically for succeeding lifts (ie, portion of a wall, pier, abument, etc) of concrete in a given structure, usually supported on anchor bolts or rods embedded in the top of the previous lift; the form is moved only after an entire lift is placed and partially hardened." This type of operation, the Dictionary points out, makes the climbing form different from the slip-form, which moves during the placement of concrete. As suppliec by VSL Engineers (HK) Ltd, the VSL Climbform is presently being used in the construction of Citibank Plaza, the skyscrapers to be built on IL 8888, Garden Road, Hong Kong Island. In the following, VSL Engineers (HK) Ltd managing director Andrew Payne describes his company's climbform system and its operation.
