Abstract
As part of its survey of world architecture, Building Journal celebrates Australia's RAIA national awards, held annually since 1981. In 1994, the awards committee of four architects and one non-architect received 400 submissions in eight categories. The winning projects share more than just design flair; natural ventilation systems, the recycling of historic structures and the use of simple materials demonstrate a sensitivity to their surroundings and a concern for the environment.
