Abstract
This article starts from the familiar premise that the construction industries in the UK, and other jurisdictions (such as Hong Kong) which use the UK system fo contracting, are plagued by a highly adversarial culture which adds very substantially to construction costs.
In recent decades, there have been various quests for a solution to this problem. Some have been entirely genuine, others have been motivated by self-interest, though generally disguised by a few "fig leaves" of terminology.
In attempting to peer inot the future, Timothy R Steadman, a partner with Baker & McKenzie, Solicitors, comments on where some of those initiatives now stand and how they might develop in the coming decade.
