Abstract
Paying homage to Vitra is easy. A 48 hour whirlwind tour of the headquarters and manufacturing sites at Basel and Weil am Rhein, plus an exclusive with the chair man himself Rolf Fehlbaum, left a lasting impression. Businessman, philanthropist, furniture fanatic...? - it's hard to pin a label on the guy, but what's quite clear is that his company means far more than stacks of chairs. And we are talking stacks - 500,000 a year to be precise and DM440 million in sales turnover. But although the company is big business, they deliberately try not to act like it. And what's more they carry it off admirably.
