Abstract
A highlight of the Designing Hong Kong Conference was a speech by one of the world's foremost architects, Cesar Pelli. Born in Argentina, and now based in the US, Pelli has been responsible for some of the world's most famous modern buildings including Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur and London's Canary Wharf- the largest commercial development in Europe. His ideas on architecture are sometimes controversial but always stimulating. Robert Cairns reports.
(1) "Designing a city is not like designing a house or a chair. Cities are living organisms. They are like people."
(2) "The character of Hong Kong as a city is still in the process of being defined."
