Abstract
For many years, traffic conditions at Tsing Yi Island in Hong Kong have been serious problem due to increased industrial and residential development on the island. In 1985, the New Territories Development department called for tender to build Liu To Bridge, a four-lane bridge connecting to a link road (TY5) leading to Tsing Yi North Bridge and to the south of the island. The tender was unusual in that the government stated in the tender documents that althernative designs would be considered. Project manager Chris Holder of Dragages et Travaux Publics, the winning contractor, describes the company's successful alternative design. (1) Sequence deck construction
