Abstract
An advocacy group, the Central-Wanchai Reclamation Study Group (CWRSG), comprising of professionals from the various disciplines of architecture, urban design, planning, environmental and transport engineering was established in early 1998 to find a solution that could achieve the planning goals set by the government against a set of specific economic parameters, as well as preserving the cultural heritage and local civic pride in a sustainable and environmentally sensitive manner. In the report prepared by CWRSG, they had proposed a reduced reclamation area (27.8 hectares as compared to 41.7 hectares), while facilitated the natural extension of the CBD required to accommodate new office, residential and community uses, the development of new high capacity transport nodes/links, and to provide new waterfront open space, amenity facilities and parkland.
