Abstract
Public building's have a special place in the history of architecture. In many ways they mirror the economic and social progress of a place and, if well designed, provide an element of joy to the lives of citizens who use them.
As Hong Kong's public building designers, the Architectural Services Department (ASD) receives the most attention for its high-profile projects, such as the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. However, it is in their repetitive, standardized designs for schools, police and fire stations, and market complexes that the ASD excels.
