Shanghai's new emblem : "Eastern Pearl" TV Tower 巍然屹立的“東方明珠”

Abstract
"Eastern Pearl", Shanghai TV's broadcasting tower, will be this city's new emblem. Funded by the Shanghai TV Broadcasting Bureau and designed by the East China Architectural Design College, the project is now under construction by the Shanghai No.1 Construction Company, Shanghai Foundation Company and Shanghai Industrial Installation Company.
Following an investment of 600 million RMB, the "Eastern Pearl" has for 24 months been given the highest quality of workmanship since its speedy progress began in September 1991. The whole project will be completed in the beginning of 1991. The "Eastern Pearl" will then be the third highest TV tower in the world and the highest in Asia. In any event, its design and use of space will give it a unique place in the world."東方明珠"上海廣播電視塔, 由上海廣播電視局投資﹑華東建築設計院設計﹑上海市第一建築工程公司﹑上海市基礎公司﹑上海市工業設備安裝公司承包施工。電視塔工程建成後, 將成為上海城市的象徵, 因此它的造型設計獨特別緻﹑結構複雜, 帶來工程質量高﹑施工難度大的困難。
上海廣播電視塔的高度居世界第三位, 亞洲第一位, 而其造型之獨特和高空建築面積﹑體量, 可居世界首位。
