Abstract
The New Parliamentary Building for the House of Commons at Westminster will contain offices for Members of Parliament and administrative staff, committee rooms and other support facilities The site is opposite the Clock Tower (Big Ben) on the Thames Embankment and the project includes the redevelopment of Westminster Underground railway station as part of the Jubilee Line extension. The brief is for a six-storey building with a floor area of about 15, 000 sq m and includes a requirement for an energy efficient design. Ove Arup & Partners have been appointed as structural and services consultants for this prominent engineer-led project, with Michael Hopkins & Partners being the architect.
