Abstract
This is the first part of a two-part article that surveys the reaction of courts throughout the common law world to the use of formulae to calculate indirect losses caused by delay. In this part, Glenn Haley and Geoffrey Shaw outline two common species of indirect loss and tow formulae commonly used to quantify them. They report on the reception of the well-known Hudson fformula. Part II (appearing in next month's edition) concludes with guidelines for using formulae effectively.
