Abstract
Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa's emphasis on green issues in his recent Policy Address has not only raised the profile of green issues locally but is indicative of a global swing to address environmental performance. In the case of the United Kingdom, lawmakers and the general public have been placing increasing pressure on the construction industry to boost awareness and take action; a situation which parallels that in Hong Kong today. Construction & Contract News offers this paper by UK organisation CIRIA on its moves to address the environmental performance of the British construction industry and projects being implemented by the organisation on a national scale (1) CIRIA's role (2) Measuring environmental performance (3) The client and the design team (4) Improving performance on site (5) Practical and informative dissemination
