Abstract
The design of Central Library in Hong Kong is wrought with controversy, but not so Moshe Safdie's library in Vancouver, Canada. Here, the architect considered the form, light and circulation of institutional buildings. Said Safdie, "We can look at but cannot go back 19 centuries. The force of what we must deal with today needs neww inventive forms and models, to recreate the sense of dignity we want. In any form, there is a kind of nostalgic seek. Allow us to quote out of context. We cannot go back, yes, but we should take this public library incident as a lesson and think about the path of our institutional buildings in future.
