Abstract
The quest for land in one of the most rigorously developed areas in the world has led to reclamation throughout Hong Kong's history. As a city founded around sea trade it is inevitable that the port areas and harbour front should have evolved into the high impact areas of today and in recent years reclamation projects have flourished like never before. Over the past ten years the government has proposed a number of development strategies aimed at major restructuring of the harbour, with reclamation playing the key role. Already a number of these projects have been completed, but phased development is set to continue well beyond the all important handover date. (1) A source of land supply (2) Adopting a strategic approach (3) Opening up the waterfront (4) The contractors role (5) Impact on the city
