Abstract
Located in the historical heart of Brussels, opposite to the Grand Place.
Originally designed by architect Jean-Pierre Cluysenaar, the Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert was completed in 1847. The Galeries forms a true early city within a city. These three-story glass-roofed galleries are comprised of retail on ground level, residential apartments and offices on the upper levels. Two theatres and a cinema complement this vivid urban microcosm. The Galeries is still owned by the heirs of the developers who built the project, which connects the Grand Place (the historical city centre of Brussels) to the Opera, the Saint-Michel and Gudule Cathedral area. The project is forerunner of multi-level glass roof arcades in the world.
