Abstract
The UK has their Jasper Morrisons, their Sheridan Coakleys, the US has their Bill Stumpfs, the Australians, Mark Newson and the Italians; well, what more do I need to say? But what about Hong Kong; who do we have taking Hong Kong furniture design onto the world stage? In the eyes of many, the only furniture design scene in Hong Kong is that which has been 'seen' many times before as someone else's work. Hong Kong is often viewed by other countries either as a 'Reproduction Reservoir', the 'Take off Territory' or simply (as it so often promotes itself as) 'the gateway to China and the Golden Triangle' so that Hong Kong becomes an importer and a service centre for other countries rather than a design or even manufacturing center in its own right.
