Abstract
Allen Jack + Cottier, established in 1952, offers a wide range of professional services in the related disciplines of architecture, urban design, facilities and asset management, interior design and graphics. Since 1965, the New South Wales based firm has received more design awards from industry organisations and the Royal Australian Institute of Architects (RAIA) than any other private architectural practice in Australia. Allen Jack + Cottier (AJ+C) believes that every individual project is an opportunity to dignify the environment. Whilst the orthodox solution of restoration is in many instances the most appropriate, an open mind on how to reconcile the client's needs with the integrity of significant buildings can promote innovative, context- sensitive solutions. The company is owned and managed by four directors. Keith Cottier has been a director of the firm since 1965 and has been a driving force behind the continuing quality of the company's work. In addition to his considerable experience in all aspects of architecture and planning, he has maintained continual involvement in property management as a member of the Sydney Cove Authority and the City West Development. In the areas of architectural history and conservation, he served as a commissioner of the Australian Heritage Commission for six years. Cottier's significant contribution to the art and practise of architecture was recognised in 2001 when he was awarded the Gold Medal from the RAIA.
