Abstract
The Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA) has announced the nine winners in is Annual Awards 2000. The diversity among the 67 entries is displayed in the list of winners, with the Dragonair/CNAC Headquaters by Wong Tung & Partners and the Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defense by Architectural Services Department receiving the Silver Medal. The 2000 edition also saw the introduction of a new category---the Design Award for HKIA Members' Work Outside of Hong Kong---in addition to the existing Certificates of Merit and President's Prize for projects with construction costs less then $20 million.
On announcing the Awards, HKIA President Professor Patrick Lau remarked on the standard of work carried out by Hong Kong architects. "Despite the slow recovery of our economy and the fact that architects are suffering from the lack of commissions, our members have shown tremendous efforts in providing creative and environmentally friendly architectural solutions," Lau said. "We will stand by out commitment to continue to promote excellence in architecture and contribute to the success of Hong Kong as a world class city."
