Abstract
Every year, the editors of the tiny Collins Gern English Dictionary oust words which have fallen from vogue to make room for new words and phrases that reveal the trend of the times. In the 1991 edition, words such as "flappers" were cut ot make way for more-modern phrases, including "sick building syndrome," defined as "a high incidence of illness in office workers, attributed to immediate working surroundings." Sick Building Syndrome (or Tight Building Syndrome) has become a major concern to architects, engineers, and developers as a rash of lawsuits has placed pressure on them to revise their priorities.
