Abstract
In designing the $335.9-million East Ocean Centre in Tsimshatsui East, Hsin-Yieh Architects & Associates Ltd could neither ignore, nor be unduly influenced by, the near-by presence of two of the pastel-coloured Science Museum and the solid-brick walled Hong Kong Polytechnic. They could, however, produce a building whose glass-and-marble elevation lets it effectively complete with its peers in the changing world of Hong Kong architecture, which the developer says is leading to "substance over profit."
