Abstract
Some call it a scandalous waste of tax payers' money. Others, a godsend; a typically innovative Hong Kong solution to a perennial urban problem: traffic congestion compounded by an on average 1-in-6 gradient incline. The solution: Hong Kong's longest mechanised municipal walkway, the 'Hillside Escalator Link', comprising 20 escalators and three travelators along its 800-metre route. Michael Duerinckx reports.
