Abstract
For the past 150 years, particularly over last 35, Hong Kong had steadily accelerated the process of urbanization, due to internal necessities and external forces.
Now, the process has moved forward or being pushed into looking forward to total urbanization as portayed in the Government's Metroplan.
While it is understandable to plan Hong Kong as an independent entity like the city-state of the past, such as Singapore, it would no longer be realistic when Hong Kong becomes part of China in 1997. Hong Kong would then virtually become a Chinese city within the Pearl River delta region.
