Abstract
With the US state of Texas recovering from the economic downturn of the late 1980s, Hong Kong investors are being presented with opportunities to purchase real estate at excellent prices. In particular, the Dallas-Ft Worth metroplex, which is home to more than three million people, offers investment opportunities unmatched by other parts of the United States. In the following article, written specially for Building Journal, our readers are given a step-by-step accounting of the history, legal aspets, investment vehicles, immigration restrictions and tax implications of investing in "the biggest state in the 48." The authors are Todd L Platt and Graham Gardner (Cushman & Wakefield); Carol Sparkman Peters and Nancy Miller (Ernst & Young); Loren Montgomery (Lawyers American Title Co of Dallas) and William T Cavanaugh Jr and Richard O Kopf (Decker, Hardt, Kopf, Harr, Munsch & Dinan, PC).
