Abstract
The highlights of the Autumn 2003 HKIA tour were no doubt getting to experience Corbu's many master pieces. Stepping into Corbu's works is like entering virtual cubist paintings. The interiors evoked the many imageries of artworks by Pablo Picasso, Piet Mondrian and many Bauhaus' artists who arranged colour planes in different positions in space - some advance, some recede; building up dynamic relationships and tesions. Cubism and modern architecture share many qualities such as; the theme of movement that creates spatial ambiguity; transparency; and deconstruction by shades of colours. An extract from a chart by Alfred H. Barr in New York's Musuem of Modern Art is able to map out the relationships between Cubism and Modern Architecture.
