Abstract
In a Building Research Establishment survey of dwellings built during the 1970s, 44 per cent of the floors tested failed to achieve the performance standard given in the Building Regaulations for insulation against airborne sounds and 63 per cent failed to achieve the standard for insulation against impact sounds. To help select suitable party floor constructions, this digest gives data on the performance of common types and shows examples of features which can affect performance. (1) Comparison with performance standards (a) Design considerations (b) Resilient layer (c) Flanking transmission (2) Floor constructions (3) Check list of factors affecting performance
