Abstract
The new maternity centre at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia, North Carolina, is now one of the largest and most innovative facilities of its kind in the US. The project, which completed last year, features a 52-bed birthing centre, a 24-bed neonatal intensive care unit with private rooms, a chemotheraphy unit, a resource centre, an education centre and a three-level underground carpark. Kaplan McLaughlin Diaz (KMD) served as master architect for the project.
