Abstract
The genesis for the new KCRC Kowloon Station lay in a phenomenon familiar to every Hong Kong resident: the queue. Long lines of sweaty travellers stretching outside the building, getting rained on and getting frustrated, waiting to get into the building so they could wait for their train in relative comfort. The KCRC wanted to keep their passengers comfortable, so they put out a bid for some improvements to the building: handrails to keep the queues orderly and canopies to keep the would be passengers dry.
