Abstract
In order to cater for the expected surge of VIPs for the '97 Handover Ceremony and the '97 IMF World Bank Conference in Hong Kong, expansion of the VIP suite at Kai Tak Airport was found to be necessary. The only availiable site was underneath the existing VIP Suite with nearby aircraft movement and maintenance activities. The noise level could come up to 105 dB. The whole part of the site was also mainly recessed into the covered maintenance area with one side opened up to the apron area. The site conditions were addressed with the design as follows. (1) Noise separation from aircraft parking and luggage trolleys: (2) Lighting effects (3) Circulation
