Universities in Hong Kong: Higher Ground

Abstract
Relative to the ivy-covered institutions of Europe, the UK and the US, Hong Kong's universities are a youthful lot. The oldest university in Hong Kong is The University of Hong Kong, which was founded in 1910 - Dr Sun Yat-sen attended classes there. At the other end of the time line, and reflecting the dynamic rise of the SAR in the past decade, HKUST (The Hong Kong University of Science & Technology) only opened its gates in 1991. As Hong Kong has grown and increasing affluence has made the coveted goal of education a reality for more and more of its residents, so too have the university campuses expanded, adding new buildings and refurbishing or extending existing structures to accommodate those with a thirst for knowledge. This supplement explores some of the new facilities designed to serve the ever-growing SAR student body and incorporates an interview with renowned Hong Kong architect and education proponent, Dr Simon Kwan.
