Abstract
This Paper presents the author's observation and views on the role of consulting engineers in this rapidly growing and changing time f the East Asia and ASEAN region, drawing mostly from the author's knowledge and experience of consulting in Hong Kong. In spite of the recent ASEAN region currency crisis, the author remains optimistic on infrastructure development in Hong Kong and in the region generally. There will be more intro-regional cooperatoin, through the introduction of e-mail and Internet. Consulting engineers will be at the forefront in developing intra and inter-regional service trading.
