Abstract
Only three decades after the Kowloon Wharf and Godown Company first constructed berthing facilities for passenger ships on the Kowloon waterfront, the area has become home to the largest of Hong Kong's famous 'city within a city' developments. Since 1966, when the good ship Canberra first docked at Ocean Terminal, two million square feet of retail, three million square feet of office space and three hotels have been constructed along the slender strip of land between the sea and Canton Road.
And it's still growing. The most recent addition - the just completed Gateway II - brings 2.7 million extra square feet of offce, retail and apartment space to Wharf Holding's mammoth flagship development, Harbour City.
