Abstract
The Hong Kong Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is modest in scale by Mormon standards, but it has been constructed to the highest standards.
(1) The search for a site
From its origins in the United States in the 1830s, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has spread across the world, encompassing some ten million members. The first Mormon missionary came to Hong Kong in 1853 and the congregation has grown to more then 20,000 today. When a congregation reaches such proportions, the Church will build a temple in addition to the existing chapels or 'meetinghouses'.
