Abstract
Total Quality Management (TQM) has as its main thrust continuous improvement in customer satisfaction, employee satisfaction, productivity, and health & safety, the real benefit being the synergy between them. Workers need to be empowered through health & safety education and training to: complete activities safely and without defects; participate in health & safety processes, and contribute to continuous improvement. Their commitment to TQM and its customer focus initiatives, create a highly motivated and empowered organization with an impressive client list. Teamwork is essential for the smooth and successful running of an organization. Conflicts can often occur within teams, especially if the group is diverse. A core team involving safety engineers, quantity surveyors and construction managers are appointed to ensure that the work of contractors is accomplished.
