Abstract
Established in 1995 in Kuala Lumpur, Tensegrity is the result of an amalgamation between the firms Architectural Bureau and Tensegrity I-D, both of which were originally founded by Joseph Khoo. He was trained at the Architecture Research Unit, University of North London before working with TR Hamzah & Yeang for a period of time. In 1998, Khoo set up an associate office in Geneva to oversee projects in Europe. Tensegrity is a synergistic practice that has evolved from a concern to synthesise architecture, landscape and interiors into a wholistic built entity, which responds to a particular situation and moment in time. The firm believes that the process of making the building is as important as the built form itself. This demands a coherent synergistic system at all levels - a "continuously intertensioned, discontinuously compressioned" state. The practice was recipient of Malaysia Institute of Architects (PAM) Award in 1995, 1997, and in 1999 for a private residential project 'Hei-an'. (1) The Nekogainai (2) Hei-an
