Abstract
Statues are common place but ever saw a pair of classically-proportioned gods, or perhaps heroes, holding up a UFO?
Well, if you happen to pass by Prudential Assurance Tower on Chatham Road, this very unlikely scene will unfold before you. The statues stand guard in front of Tartufo, an Italian restaurant. Tartufo is the Italian word for truffle but the statues are a pun on the last three words.
Prudential Assurance is designed in the Art Deco mould and the statues are meant to be in keeping with the rest of the building interior.
The restaurant owner picked Dean Wong for the job when he saw the set of Miss Asia 1990 in the foyer of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.
Wong - who is something of an artist, sculptor, prop-man - does have academic training to back him up.
