Abstract
(1) I don't want my architecture to be just full of beautiful things. I need curious proportions and materials as well as a few strange things to stimulate people. Architecture can release and stimulate people's minds in very deep dimensions.
(2) When I design architecture, I first look at the site situation, cultural and social context. After reading these factors, I begin to think about the project. To me, there is no imaginary and conceptual project as the preconditions of a site are extremely vital.
(3) I am not a minimalist, I'm just a reductionist. For my architecture, a wall is a wall, a ceiling is a ceiling, a floor is a floor. These three are essential. Minimalists like John Pawson apply the same materials to ceiling and wall, or reduce these three elements to two or even one to achieve minimal space. I don't care about that kind of thing; a wall should be wall, a ceiling should be ceiling, a floor should be floor. That is my statment.
