Abstract
The Hong Kong FSI Code stipulates that any dynamic smoke extract system shall be activated by a smoke detector installation. However, frequent false alarms have created serious problems and the magnitude has prompted the Fire Services Department to form a Working Group to identify possible solutions. This paper will examine the impact of the actuating devices on the overall fire safety with emphasis on shopping malls where a significant number of false alarms have been experienced.
