Abstract
Describing the nature of light is difficult as it is intangible. Richard Kelly (one of the founding fathers of lighting design as a separate displine) in a brave attempt summarised three fundamental elements: focal glow (highlight), ambient luminescence (ambiance), and play of brillance (sparkle). It is worth examining these characters in more detail.
