Abstract
February 11, 2002 is an important day in the design calendar for it marks the 100th birthday of Arne Jacobsen. Arguably Denmark's most famous export, perhaps with the exception of Carlsberg, the pipe-toting architect and designer is probably best known for his anatomically inspired furniture, particularly the Ant, Swan and Egg chairs. In his home country he is regarded as a national treasure, often cited as the father of organic design. The Danish Design Centre (www.ddc.dk) in Copenhagen is spearheading his centenary celebrations with an exhibition, which opens tomorrow and runs until 2 June titled Nevergreens and Evergreens.
