Abstract
Every year, tile manufacturers the world over battle to re-invent themselves in terms of their products. Last month, at the 20th Cevisama 2002, (International Trade Show for Ceramic Tiles, Surface Coverings, Sanitaryware Fittings and Bathroom Furnishings, Raw Materials, Glazes, Frits and Machinery) at Feria Valencia in Spain, this sentiment appeared to reach its peak. Tiles are no longer just tiles and many producers are keen to dispel the myth which haunts them, it seems. But if we trace back to their origins as basic architectural materials, then fast-forward to what's now possible, one gets a broader idea of their design integrity.
