Abstract
The gentle Thai and Laotian festival of Songkran is marked by a myriad of tiny leaf boats bearing lighted candles floating out on rivers and lakes. There will be an added attraction on the Mekong River in April next year, for that wil also be the time of the grand opening of the Mittraphap, or Friendship Bridge, the first fixed crossing between the two countries.
