Abstract
"Intelligent building design" is without doubt the architectural buzzword. No longer is it sufficient for an office block to merely have an architecturally pretty face. Environmental correctness is at last taking precedence in the design process, with energy saving 'green' issues being raised at every turn. Hong Kong buildings are by all accounts sadly lacking in this area in comparison to their high-flying counter-parts in the States. However, the emergence of mind-bogglingly hi-tech computer technology is making environmentally sound, intelligent design a tangible reality for Hong Kong's architects and designers. Increasingly, it is the initial planning stage that is vital to the design and development of an intelligent building, and it is during this phase that specialist expertise is called upon.
