Abstract
If we acknowlege that comfort, proper facility to do work and a feeling of well-being will enhance productivity then a well-engineered building will boost the profitablity of occupying businesses. If a building has superior built environment then it will have an advantage when negotiating rents or sales. This being the case, more attention should be paid to the design, construction and operation of buildings through cost benefit resource allocation, including performance based inducements. Existing buildings should be subjectr to an environmental audit. New building procurement should include performance base additional design and commissioning fees.
