Abstract
The objective of the Concept Plan Competition is to seek out a scheme for the West Kowloon Reclamation Project of such interest and distinction that it would truly establish Hong Kong as a world-class city of the arts and culture. The scheme is aimed at creating an unmistakable architectural symbol for Hong Kong. That is, an image that is recognised throughout the world.
One measure of the success of the competition is that no less than 161 architectural and planning practices submitted their schemes with 90 submissions from overseas and 71 locally, thereby reflecting its tremendous response.
