Abstract
Fifteen months after the tragedy of September 11th, images of New York's World Trade Center (WTC) adorning the spectacular Manhattan skyline continue to remain in people's minds, as if the towers had never been destroyed. Looking over the new plans that designers from all over the world have tried to put on the Ground Zero site, it seems that none of them can ever replace the original Twin Towers design. Yet, nostalgia should be stopped here; and as progressive as typical New Yorkers, it's time to move on and turn this tragic event into a positive opportunity."Remember - Rebuild - Renew' is the motto for the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation (LMDC), an organisation founded by the New York State Governor George E. Pataki after September 11th to handle the redevelopment projects for the WTC site. Last July, the LMDC organised to have six initial plans presented to the public, but they all failed to get the New Yorkers' support. Thereafter, seven teams consisting of 31 world famous architecture firms were invited to contribute their design talent to the future of this significant landmark.
